Beatles.... not the music band...the Wolkswagen that means so much in Lima's landscape. Actually they did...they don't any more.
When I was a kid almost every car in Lima was a beatle... here they just call it Wolkswagen... every other WW car it's called by the model name....but the Beatle is just "THE" Wolkswagen.
Now, many of the Wolkswagen have been changed by Ticos...which is a chip car, I guess the less safe in the World, imported from Asia. It's so chip that the car doesn't even exist in Europe or America. I guess it would not meet the security requirements.
Nevertheless, it is still possible to see these beatles around. This is one of the nicest I have seen... which follows the new trend of the "yellow official taxis". Usually in Lima to be a Taxi you do not need to be yellow... you just need to put on a sticker/sign which says "taxi" on top of it. But things are changing. The difference is that a "normal" taxi takes you 3 soles (1 dollar) to get somewhere in my neighborhood...the yellow one 8 soles (2 dollars and something)... so I just take pictures of the yellow ones :)
Well... this is just to say that I love beatles (the old ones). I grow up with a red one in Italy (my parents' first car) which we called "il maggiolone". Later on, when I was in Perú, my aunt used to have a light blue beatle to go around. Now we do not have any more beatles in the family... but I still love them and like to take pictures of them (as you can see).
